Meet Our Mad Scientists

Mad Science of Southern MA & RI has a fantastic group of Mad Scientists who love what they do and look forward to engaging and edutaining children!

Atomic Allen (Chief Mad Scientist) is passionate about children, science, and teaching, which makes him an ideal Chief Mad Scientist.  Prior to starting Mad Science of Southern MA & RI in the summer of 2002, he had spent over 20 years as an Engineering Manager in various aspects of the semiconductor industry.  Mad Science is a welcome change.
Terrestrial Teresa (Operations Manager / Senior Mad Scientist) sees the challenge of coordinating all of the Mad Scientists and kits and take homes as a giant puzzle to be solved.  She loves science and sharing it with others.  She believes that it is important for students to take an interest in science early.  Besides her work as a Mad Scientist, Teresa plays string bass and studies Shotokan Karate.
Jolting Jonathan (Sales & Marketing Manager / Senior Mad Scientist) originally hails from northern New York State, so he still doesn't understand why people make such a big deal about New England winters.  After spending time studying Shakespeare in London and a few years performing in NY and Boston, he found himself in RI and eventually found his way into the Mad Science family.  He is thrilled to have found a place where he can prove that nerds can be cool!  When not edutaining he can be found outside bicycling, kayaking or hiking.  He is also an avid reader, but, much to his consternation, he still can't seem to get the hang of reading while on his bicycle or in his kayak.
Ballistic Bruce is a retired science teacher of 34 plus years.  He has taught a variety of science subjects(physics, chemistry, life science and earth sciences), and the students loved his fun approach to teaching these subjects.  There were a lot of hands on activities both inside and outside.  He is also a former runner and still enjoys staying fit, mostly cycling.
Carbon Carol retired from teaching after 34 years.  Students always enjoyed her classes because of her hands on approach.  She joined Mad Science because she very much missed working with students and the creative aspect of teaching.  She has also been actively bird watching as a member of two local clubs, and she also volunteera at a Mass Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary.
Jubilant Julie is a recent college graduate.  She joined Mad Science because she knows that if you make a topic fun, students are more likely to not only pay attention, but also remember it.  She loves to help kids learn about science in a way that makes learning fun for them.
Kinetic Kelly is a student at university pursuing a Masters in Biology.  She is passionate about disseminating knowledge and getting people interested in science.
Kinetic Ken loves teaching and loves science, so being a Mad Scientist is a natural fit. When not teaching young minds science, he is teaching teenagers how to drive! He is also an active member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, so he also teaches swordsmanship.
Lunar Lori has an M.Ed in Early Childhood Education and has extensive experience with children, primarily preschool.  She has taught in a variety of preschool settings and has learned to interact with a diverse number of people.  While she can speak in front of a group of parents, she is MUCH more comfortable dealing with a room full of children.  Outside Mad Sciece, she enjoys cooking and baking and likes to exercise her own creativity by doing crafts.
Meteoric Mike is a High School Science Teacher who describes himself as a math and science 'nerd'.  He still enjoys edutaining as a Mad Scientist when he can.
Rocket Rosie is a student at university on track to become an early childhood teacher.  She loves Mad Science for the chance to teach children and to help them cultivate their interests and curiosity.  When not at school or edutaining, Rosie enjoys traveling and participating in theatre.
Safari Sean has a passion for science in general, and zoology in particular.  Before finding the trail to Mad Science, he spent time working in Disney's Animal Kingdom and at various zoos throughout New England.  Sean is also an avid musician.
Sonic Sara is a student at university, and when she was a kid, she was obsessed with 'experimenting' and 'inventing' new things.  She wants to make sure that the children who are in the Mad Science programs feel the wonder that comes with discovering something new!
Stellar Steve has been a Middle School Science teacher, and throughout his teaching he has loved sparking the "aha moment" when children are engaged in science.  His passion for science and his outgoing personality are great assets to being a Mad Scientist.
Seismic Schooner is the Office Manager and is reposnisble for making sure that all visitors say hello.  She is particularly helpful whenever balls of any kind, including planets, are involved.
